What are Suitable Foundations? Léa October 28, 2023 15:46 Updated In order to properly support your new Mattress, it is important to pair it with the right foundation! Silk & Snow mattresses should not be placed on surfaces that can accumulate moisture, such as concrete, or in humid areas. Our mattresses are made to be used on hard floors, non-spring foundations, or adjustable bed frames that can withstand the weight of the mattress, foundation, and users. Here are the suitable foundations for your Silk & Snow Mattresses: A rigid base, like a traditional metal frame with foundation, a platform bed or a slatted bed with slats (not bowed) that are at least 2” wide and no more than 3” apart. Since Queen, King and California King mattresses are wider, platform beds and slat systems require at least one center support beam. Bed frames and adjustable bases made of wired metal should not be used with your Silk & Snow mattress. Box Spring Our S&S mattress should not be combined with a Box Spring as they are usually designed to be paired with a coiled mattress. For this reason, a box spring should only be used with our Hybrid & Organic Mattress . You can absolutely use a box spring for those two models if, for example, the entire box spring is rigid and firm with an inch or less of give. You can test for this by pushing against the springs in several spots of your box spring. If the box spring is slatted, then just make sure slats are not bowed and are equally spaced, no more than 3 inches apart and no less than 2 inches wide. Even if they do not meet this exact criteria, you can remedy this by placing a sheet of plywood plywood (~1/4 inch thick) or hardboard on top of the box spring to give it the added strength for even weight distribution of the memory foam or latex. It's even better if you can find plywood or hardboard that is perforated. Most hardware stores sell this and will cut this down to the size you need. Additionally, a box spring constructed with wired metal should not be used with Silk & Snow mattresses as it could potentially damage or impact the comfort of your mattress. Adjustable Base We have Twin XLs in stock which are commonly used on adjustable beds if that is the size you are looking for. S&S Mattress Yes, the Silk & Snow Mattress was designed to be ideally compatible with an adjustable base. Typically adjustable beds are not perfectly flat which may place additional strain on the memory foam. For this reason, it is recommended that you only fit adjustable beds with a more durable mattress (typically 4 lbs or higher) no thicker than 10 inches. The Silk & Snow mattress uses a 4 lb memory foam, which is a much higher quality when compared to other online mattresses available on the market making it ideal for adjustable bases. It is the perfect pair for adjustable bases as its all-foam construction will conform better and quicker to the bed. Hybrid & Organic Mattress Yes, the Silk & Snow Hybrid & Organic was designed to be compatible with an adjustable base. When you have an adjustable bed, the bed will not be perfectly flat all the time and this puts additional strain on the foam and coils. For this reason, it is usually recommended that you only fit adjustable beds with a more durable mattress, such as the S&S Hybrid & Organic. Please keep in mind that since the Hybrid has coils, it will take a little more time to conform to the adjustable base compared to a mattress that is purely foam, such as our S&S Mattress. Murphy Bed Yes, our mattresses can be compatible with Murphy beds. They are suitable as long as the mattresses are not bent and that the slats are not curved. You are looking to have a flat, even surface with nothing that can poke into the mattress and thus damage it. The base must be sturdy enough to hold the mattress. A good thing to do would be to check the weight limit of the Murphy bed in question. We recommend the S&S mattress on a wall bed as it is a little lighter and easier to fit inside. If the base allows for the mattress to lay perfectly as it would when it's open, the mattress will be compatible. The edges must not be scrunched up or sag to allow for an optimal feel and better longevity.
